The FN2010 Launch
My name is Andrew Weber, the man behind Football Nomad, and it gives me great pleasure to personally welcome you to the launch of the FN2010 web-documentary!
It’s been a long time coming but with the 2010 World Cup just seven days away it’s well and truly time to get the show on the road.
In today’s post I will outline what you can expect to see on Football Nomad over the next five or so weeks before naming the three winners of our World Cup jersey competition.
What is FN2010?
FN2010 is a football documentary combining film and social media to capture the colour and excitement of the 2010 World Cup. It is a part of Football Nomad, the world’s first football-specific travel and culture blog.
Who is hosting and presenting FN2010?
FN2010 will be hosted and presented by myself and my brother Patrick. We are both born and bred Australians from Brisbane who share an exceptional passion for the culture of the game.
We will be shooting all of the footage on our travels through Europe and Africa as we connect with locals in England, Germany, France, Holland, Spain, Italy and South Africa and capture their unique cultural take on the world’s greatest game.
What is the itinerary for FN2010?
I leave Brisbane, Australia on June 9 and will meet up with Patrick, who is already in London, on the 10th. We will leave London together on the 11th to travel through Münich, Paris and Eindhoven over the next 10 days to specifically cover Germany v Australia, France v Mexico and Holland v Japan.
On June 21 Patrick and I will part ways. He will travel to Denmark for a week while I head to South Africa to meet up with my friend Annie. During that week Annie and I will travel to Johannesburg and Durban to see three games live: Brazil v Portugal, Ghana v Germany and a yet-to-be-determined Round of 16 match.
On June 30 I will head back to England to meet up with Patrick and plot the remainder of our trip. At that point in time the World Cup will have reached the quarter-final stage and our intention is to country-hop between the nations that are still in the tournament, right up until the final on July 11.
What sort of content will be posted online?
The really special thing about FN2010 is that, unlike any previous football documentary, the content will go online as we travel. That means you can follow mine and Patrick’s adventures on a day-to-day basis and even share advice or information on where we should or shouldn’t go.
While Football Nomad will be updated daily with written posts, photographs and video diary entries, our major focus will be the edited documentary videos released every three or four days.
These videos will included edited footage of the things we get up to in a particular country, with the focus on providing a good insight into the football culture in each nation that we visit. That means interviews with locals, footage on game days as well as our own thoughts and commentary on the madness going on around us.
How can you get involved with FN2010?
The best way you can support Football Nomad and FN2010 is to follow the blog daily during the World Cup and commenting on the posts. For those wanting to be kept in the loop simply follow Football Nomad via email updates or join the growing community on Facebook. There is over 700 people already joined and that’s before today’s launch!
Additionally, if you are living in the countries and/or cities that Patrick and I are visiting and want to share some advice, meet up for a drink or even lend us a spare bed then please send us an email.
This project is about sharing the World Cup experience with as many people as possible so please don’t be scared to get in touch with us.
The competition winners
I was lucky enough to be given three replica World Cup jerseys from SoccerPro to give away to those who subscribed to Football Nomad in the lead-up to the FN2010 launch.
Now it’s time to announce the winners of those shirts!
- David Francy (USA)
- Crystal (USA)
- Lee Fisk (Australia)
Thanks to everybody who participated and congratulations to the three winners. I’ll be getting in touch with you shortly via email to find out which shirt you want and get them sent out as soon as possible.
Final thoughts…
The 2010 World Cup is going to be amazing and Patrick and I hope the FN2010 web-documentary will enhance the experience of those not fortunate enough to see its cultural impact first-hand.
We hope to provide unique online coverage that you can enjoy daily to feel connected with the rest of the football world.
In return we simply ask that if you like what you see and hear on Football Nomad that you tell your friends and encourage them to enjoy it too.
Lastly, enjoy the World Cup! It only comes around once every four years so make the most of it!
Kind Regards,
Andrew Weber

Hey mate, congratulations on the project and I’m sure it’ll be an amazing adventure. I have to say while I’m optimistic, my better judgment says that Australia will finish third in Group D behind Germany and Serbia. The Serbs have Stankovic, Vidic, Ivanovic and Zigic (his height will cause problems) – plus Mourinho’s apparently after their left back for Madrid.
Also, what about some of the big names missing? Russia (FIFA ranking of 11), Sweden, Czech Republic, Turkey, Republic of Ireland. By my calculation, only 17.5 countries (only Serbia qualified following its split with Montenegro) from 32 have gone on from Germany to South Africa.
Good luck, I look forward to reading the blog and seeing the footage. Also, don’t mind if I just lay down a cheeky plug for the ABC’s special World Cup site – check out http://www.abc.net.au/worldcup/2010/
Congratulations! I’ll be tuuuuned in.

Enjoy the World Cup!
Andy, Patrick, you are just legends you blokes. I don’t know if I ever told you about my European travails (albeit brief) but I can say to you I believe Munich was “Himmel” (Heaven) and it is where I’m going when I die and that Eindhoven was a beautiful, beautiful city (with so many emotional family reunions for our group) if you don’t turn your nose up at it (you won’t, you’re much too good a type of person for that) and you are about to idulge in the time of your lives.
Speaking of indulgence, I don’t indulge in jealousy, I’m so happy for you blokes and the great times you are about to experience but I do have one request of you. In this world that can sometimes be infinitely small and infinitely large I would one day love to take in an Arsenal game in with you. Be that on a big screen TV, be that on a shoebox size TV, be that at the Emirates, I’d love to meet you and buy you a beer, scotch, or many. Live and Love the world cup you fellas, I wanna read about all the stories here and better than that, one day I want to hear it from your own mouth.
Your interwebs mate,
Mark White

Does anyone know of any current UK credit cards that offer good rewards? I will pay off the balance in full every month but was hoping to find a card that rewarded you every time you use it. Things like discounts at shops selling dvd’s, music, clothes etc? I don’t want airmiles (as lots seem to offer these!)..
