FN2010 Part 8: The 2010 World Cup Final

You’ve seen it before.

A good friend’s team loses an important sporting match.

They are inconsolable, their expression betraying a mind furiously debating what went wrong and why it had to happen to them.

They wonder, “Why me? Why my team? What did we do to deserve this?”

Only in this case it wasn’t a good friend, it was an entire nation of 16 million people.

And it wasn’t an important sporting match, it was the World Cup final.

Congratulations to Spain for their first World Cup win.

Commiserations to The Netherlands for a third World Cup final defeat.

It was a day to remember, if only for the wrong reasons.

Glad your team won Meji, but I’m not so happy for us.

We were denied quite a party, I can assure you.

Thanks for your support during the month.

You guys didn’t visit Spain, did you? Maybe you should have traveled to Barcelona instead of Eindhoven, given that you had already visited Amsterdam and Rotterdam (was it?)

@ Arjun – True, but we explained in the video why we stayed in Holland. We wanted them to win, simple as that.

Culture aside it would have been very difficult being in Spain if we secretly wanted them to win.

What was gherkin doing in Holland? He should have been playing against Spain in South Africa. He probably would have scored a few.
