FN2010 Part 5: Durban, South Africa

While the rest of South Africa shivered through freezing-cold nights and blustery days, Durban produced perfect World Cup weather.

A more compact city than Johannesburg and home to a tremendously modern stadium, Durban played host to what appeared to be, on paper, the most eye-catching game of the first stage: World Cup favourites Brazil versus Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

And while the game didn’t live up to the billing – finishing 0-0 – the atmosphere in the sweltering coastal city was fantastic.

Brazilian fans gave us a taste of what the 2014 tournament will be like with their carnival atmosphere while the Portuguese supporters, most of whom were locals that moved south from Mozambique and Angola during the Portuguese Colonial War in the 60s and 70s, created a sea of red and green that clashed vividly with the Brazilian yellow.

All in all it was a superb few days of Brazilian, Portuguese and South African football culture and you check it all out in Part 5 of the FN2010 documentary.

    “Shakira, eat your heart out”

Ermmm, it’s the official World Cup song from K’naan called Waving Flag.

Someone needs to brush up on his music ;)

@ Peter – Ah, but that was the point. Shakira’s song was being smashed by everyone loving the Coke one.

@ Lux – I’ll be flying Dutch colours. They’re my team, after Australia.

great great great, great atmosphere, great people, not such a great match I guess, I can’t follow all the matches, now there are coming the ‘big’ ones, I fear there won’t be many great matches at all up now ’cause it’s a world cup, the tension is too high, but who knows, it will be tense in any case, I hope so, and frankly , I even enjoy two days without football , really, ……..

    Hey dude,

I just wanted to say, I’ve been watching all the videos and reading the posts here and I am really digging the content!

You’re doing a great job of taking me along your journey through the format and deliverence of the content. From a film perspective, it’s gritty, fun and insanely interesting. I was hooked from the first Vid; and you know how little I am interested in Football however, I have been enjoying FN to no end.

Keep it up! I look forward to every new Video.

    JK
